The Short Of It (no pun intended)

Joan Johnson/Brown is a graphic artist working in the little town of Boonville, N.C. (OK, it only has a tiny post office and one stop light.) She specializes in websites, logos, printed material and people. Her down-home style makes it easy for clients to relate to her.

The Long Version

I grew up in furniture capital, Thomasville, N.C. The daughter of a convenient store owner and a freelance accountant. I joined the Navy in 1982 and became an Illustrator-Draftsman in Newport, R.I. (Man, was it cold!) I almost learned how to speak the language – or at least to understand it – so I stayed for 18 years at the Naval War College. While working for all those wonderful people from all over the world, I did two things that were life changing…I started Blue Ridge Graphics and got my first show collie. The combination has been amazing!

I left the cold and moved to Laurel Springs, N.C. then moved again (because I like to torture myself apparently) to Bristol, TN and finally landed in Boonville, N.C. Been here since 2022 with the Man, 3 kids, 1 granddaughter and 10 show collies!

Lots of traveling before and after but the one thing that has always remained the same – my love for helping people.

My projects have come from a diverse group from Lockheed Martin to the pressure washer guy down the road and everything in between. So if you would like to create something great together just contact Joan – the short one – over there on the right!

Joan Johnson at Blue Ridge Graphics is an amazing person with incredible talents. She is also a very astute and responsible business woman who manages to delight her customers with creative, timely, and informative results. Some you might even call “works of art.”

I met Joan three years ago when the American Bloodhound Club was in search of a new website. Up till then club members were responsible for our website and it just wasn’t working. We need a fresh new design and Joan didn’t disappoint. Joan responded to our “Request for Proposal” and the rest is history.

The fact that Joan was also a breeder and exhibitor of AKC Collies gave us great comfort. Joan spoke our language. She understood exactly what we were trying to achieve and her experience with dog clubs was a major bonus. She makes it fun.

From this initial experience Joan soon became family as she continued to work on three other dog club related websites. Without a doubt I would highly recommend Joan Johnson at Blue Ridge Graphics. I guarantee she won’t disappoint.

I have worked with Joan on many different projects over the past 8 years. She has always been helpful and attentive to my needs, and is adept at taking my original visions to more dynamic levels. I will continue to work with Joan and Blue Ridge Graphics whenever I need expert level work.

The Australian Cattle Dog Club of America needed a new website and saw the beautiful sites that Joan Johnson of Blue Ridge Graphics had already designed. We decided her quality of work was what we wanted, something that stood out and made people take notice.  Her expertise, not only in design but of understanding what a AKC parent needs, was carried into our website she designed for us.  Joan was great to work with even when we were slow at getting things she needed.  Joan gave us ideas and has helped us update and keep our site fresh and current.  I would highly recommend her Blue Ridge Graphics as your webmaster.  Joan is very knowledgeable and has an eye for what makes a website appealing.  Easy to work with and to communicate with, we are more than happy with her service.

Breeding Collies has been a passion of mine since the sixty’s. Advertising was always limited to local venues until the computer became widely used and the world could see what you were doing. I asked around among friends who could make a web site for me and Joan Johnson’s name came up. I contacted her and she got busy. I could not believe the results. Joan created a professional, quick and easy to navigate web site that instantly got results. I could not keep up with the correspondence, inquires and interest. It was amazing. The site drew the attention of people all over the world. Joan herself is professional, direct, and honest. All the attributes that I like in a friend. Our friendship was the best part of the whole deal.

Joan’s talents are diverse and comprehensive: she creates beautiful graphics, understands and executes logical site navigation, has a deep understanding of all the intricacies of web and e-mail hosting, backups, site conversions, e-commerce, underlying code, etc.  With all that technical expertise, she still communicates with her clients on a personal level, able to translate highly technical concepts into colloquial terms if her client is non-technical.

I am pleased to refer Joan to other businesses who seek websites of quality, ease of  use and functionality. Joan is a delight to work with – easy to get along, great sense of humor and  creativity.
